The Ryder would be in Chicago in late September. That was a go. Then when I checked the Bears' schedule I was hoping to see my first NFL game. Instead of being in Chicago, the Bears were in Dallas for a Monday Night game on October 1st. Then, just for fun, I looked at the Yankees schedule, and lo and behold, the Yankees were playing the Red Sox on Tuesday, October 2, 2012. Thus was born Andre's incredible "Triple Play Travel" adventure:
It turned into five days of hectic travel, seven airplane flights, three events, three cities, three sports, three hotels, meeting dozens of wonderful people, and a trip I will always remember.
It began in Chicago for the Ryder Cup at Medinah, what is now known as the Miracle at Medinah. The Eurepeans were trailing and seemed to have little hope of overtaking the powerful Americans. I walked the course in the early afternoon and then at 3:00pm found a wonderful spot on the 17th hole - a small idyllic par three that was far more treacherous than shown by the television cameras.
I regret not bringing my small camera to the course. The images on that beautiful day were stunning. I stayed on 17 until the American collapse was complete and left the course in stunned disbelief.
Monday morning I headed to O'Hare and the flight to Dallas.
